1. What is this draft rule about?

Members of each of the professions to be regulated will be required to register with CORU in order to use the title of their profession.

They need to renew their registration each year in order to remain on the CORU register. The annual renewal date is set by the registration board.  For social workers it is 31 May each year.

Members of the public will be able to check the register on our website to ensure that the health or social care professional they are attending is registered.

This draft rule proposes a time frame for registrants to renew their registration by paying an annual fee.

The rule proposes that registrants will receive an initial notification, informing them to pay by the renewal date. If the registration has not been renewed on the twenty eight day following the renewal date, registrants will be issued with a final notice which will give them an additional fourteen days to renew. After this period of 42 days the Council may direct the registration board to remove the person’s name from the register.

We want to ensure that the professions are involved in the development of the system of regulation and that’s why we want to hear their views on this rule. All opinions will be taken into consideration before this rule is finalised.

 

2. Why are you consulting the public on this?

We want to ensure that the system of regulation is developed in consultation with the public, the professions and other interested parties. By participating in this consultation process your views will be taken into consideration.

 

3. What will you do with my contribution?

All contributions will be reviewed and considered in light of the rule.  A report will be made detailing the contributions and presented to Council before they finalise the rule.  Any suggestions of alterations to the Rule will also be presented to Council before the final decision which will be made in the middle of March 2012.

 

4. What happens then?

Once the rule has been made, this will become CORU’s formal process for the annual renewal of registration for all registrants.
