Grandparenting

You are here: Registration » Grandparenting

A ‘transitional’ period of registration is necessary when introducing statutory (compulsory) registration. This transitional period is known as ‘grandparenting’.  Grandparenting is the name of the process by which existing practitioners can apply for registration.

The grandparenting period for practitioners will run for two years from the date of opening of each register. After this period only those who hold a qualification approved by bye law will be eligible to apply for registration. Only persons registered with the relevant Registration Board at CORU will be lawfully permitted to use the professional titles as listed in the Act.

The grandparenting period allows individuals who have been practising at any time in the 5 years prior to the opening of the Registers and either a) hold a Schedule 3 qualification or b) a qualification that is sufficiently relevant or c) successfully complete an assessment of professional competence, to apply for registration.
