Protection of Professional Titles

Once the register is fully established for a profession, only professionals registered with the Health and Social Care Professionals Council may use the protected professional title.  Anyone using one of these titles and not registered will be guilty of an offence and may be subject to prosecution and a fine of up to €3,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or both. It is also an offence to intend to deceive by falsely representing oneself to be registered in our registers.

The professional titles covered by the Act are:-

Clinical Biochemist

Physiotherapist

Dietitian

Psychologist

Medical Scientist

Radiographer

Occupational Therapist

Social Care Worker

Orthoptist

Social Worker

Podiatrist

Speech and Language Therapist
