Recognition of International Qualifications

Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications, applies to all Member State nationals wishing to practise a regulated profession in an EU Member State other than that in which they obtained their professional qualifications. Its intention is to make it easier for qualified professionals, including certain health professionals, to practice their professions in European countries other than their own. Due safeguards are provided in the assessment of the qualification for public health and safety and consumer protection.

All queries on the recognition of qualifications and on temporary provision of services should be addressed to the relevant Competent Authority.

“Competent Authority” means any regulatory or professional body empowered by the State to validate professional qualifications obtained in a country other than the Republic of Ireland.
