Social Workers Registration Board
The Minster for Health and Children appointed the Social Workers Registration Board on 5th August 2010. The objective of the Social Workers Registration Board is to protect the public by fostering high standards of professional conduct, professional education, training and competence among social workers. On 5th August 2010 the Social Workers Registration Board became the first of 12 boards to be appointed by the Minister for Health and Children, under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005.
The new process of regulation for social workers will afford significant benefits to the public, most especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society with whom social workers interact on a daily basis.
The Social Workers Registration Board at CORU will assume statutory responsibility for the assessment, approval and monitoring of training courses for the health and social care professions under the Act; establishing the code of professional conduct and ethics and standards of performance to which social workers must adhere. The Board will also be designated Competent Authority and will be responsible for recognition of non-national qualifications.
There will be an individual Registration Board for each registered profession. More
