Physiotherapists Registration Board Biographies
Anne Horgan (Chair)
Anne leads and manages the day-to-day physiotherapy service within the Health & Social Care Directorate (HSCD) of MMUH, ensuring provision of a high quality physiotherapy service.
Her role also supports the Chair of the Health and Social Care Directorate & Head of Transformation regarding the hospital’s change agenda and relevant project management. Anne has been working in the acute hospital setting since 1992. Nominated as an ISCP physiotherapy representative for the National Clinical Programme in Surgery (Acute Surgery) in 2013.
A previous Board member of Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) 1995-1996 and 2010-2012. Past professional appointments have included; Project Manager, Quality Management Information System, MMUH, Dublin (June 2011-May 2012); Integrated Care Pathway Facilitator, MMUH, Dublin (June 2005-May 2006); Senior Physiotherapist, National Acute Spinal Injuries Unit, MMUH, Dublin.
Anne is also a member of Council.
Roy Brennan
An honours graduate in Sports Rehabilitation from St Marys University College, Strawberry Hill, Roy is the Director and Senior Sports Rehabilitation Specialist at The Iveagh Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic.
Roy currently sits on the Committee and Board of Directors of Athletic & Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland and on the organising Committee of the WFATT/FSEM World Congress held in Dublin in September 2014. Roy was appointed by The Irish Institute of Sport to the Panel for the Provision of High Performance Sport Services. He sits on the School of Science Industry & Professional Advisory Board as an external expert at IT Carlow.
Jane Carolan
Jane’s main interests are in strategy development and implementation, performance measurement, risk evaluation and management as well as leading teams to execution in challenging times.
Jane is a physiotherapist by profession with over 10 years clinical work experience in many settings both in Ireland and the USA.
Since then she has worked in a range of senior management roles within the North Eastern Health Board and was an Assistant CEO for Community Services when it was disbanded. Jane has held a number of senior management roles in the HSE and was the National Director for Corporate Planning and Performance for almost six years and a member of the HSE Senior Management Team during that period.
Fearghal Grimes
Fearghal is Chief Executive at St. John’s Hospital, Limerick since 2011. He has over 27 years’ experience working in the healthcare sector across many sectors and countries. Fearghal practised initially as a physiotherapist then moved into the field of quality and accreditation before progressing to hospital management. Fearghal has a special interest in quality and safety and hospital governance. He is currently completing his second Masters in Executive Leadership. Fearghal hopes to bring his extensive professional healthcare experience to the Board to ensure safe services for patients and best practice for professionals.
Padraig Heverin
Padraig has extensive experience in mental health nursing, in all care settings. He is a Senior Nurse Manager with experience of implementing best practice as outlined by Mental Health Commission standards. He has extensive knowledge of inspection processes as applied by Inspectorate Teams in Mental Health Practice and the achievement of expected criteria through action plans.
Padraig brings to the Physiotherapists Registration Board previous experience of board membership at national level and membership of subgroups/working groups within this board i.e. Audit Committee and Forensic Working Group. In addition, he has experience of change management strategies for improving practice.
Ruth Magee
Ruth has a detailed knowledge and experience of physiotherapy practice both nationally and internationally within a multi-disciplinary framework.
She served as an executive on the board of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, and appeared as a guest physiotherapist on the Marian Finucane Show, RTE’s training show ‘No Experience Needed’ and TV3’s Ireland AM.
Ruth lectures internationally on sports injury management, injury prevention and musculoskeletal medicine. Her qualifications include BA Sports Studies (University of Ulster), BSc Physiotherapy (Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh) and Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy/Musculoskeletal Medicine (University of Queensland, Australia.)
