Who is required to register?
Statutory registration applies to the following 15 health and social care professions, regardless of whether they work in the private or public sector or are self-employed.

Currently Registers are open for Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians, Radiographers, Radiation Therapists, Social Workers and Speech and Language Therapists,
Once a Register opens, there is a two year transitional period . At the end of this two year period, only professionals on the Register are legally allowed to use the professional title.
If an individual continues to work using a protected title and has not registered, they may be prosecuted and can be fined up to €5000, imprisoned for up to six months, or both.
Some employers may insist on registration before the end of the transitional period as part of a contract of employment.
