A word from the CEO, Claire O' Cleary
I am pleased to share the latest updates and developments from CORU, the past few months have been eventful, and we are proud of the strides we've made in supporting both our registered professionals and the public they serve. This newsletter provides key highlights from our ongoing efforts, with a special focus on important updates regarding the renewal cycle, recent webinars, upcoming elections for registration boards, and our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) audits.
First and foremost, I would like to acknowledge the successful completion of the renewal cycle for Optometrists, Occupational Therapists and Podiatrists, using our new registrant system. This marks an important milestone in the implementation of the system which we launched in November 2024. I would like to thank all professionals for their positive feedback and cooperation. The new system has streamlined the renewal process, making it more accessible, user-friendly, and efficient. We are delighted to hear that many of you found the process easier to navigate and that the system has improved your overall experience. For those who have not yet completed their renewals, please ensure that you do so promptly. If you need assistance or guidance, we encourage you to review the dedicated resources available on our website, where you will find step-by-step instructions and helpful FAQs.
In addition to our renewal activities, we have recently hosted a series of webinars in collaboration with the Health Service Executive (HSE), aimed at providing valuable support and guidance to both international applicants, and new graduates within Ireland and the United Kingdom seeking to register with a Registration Board of CORU. These webinars covered a range of topics, including application procedures, professional standards, and the essential knowledge required for newcomers to the health care landscape. For those who missed the webinars or wish to revisit the material, recordings and supplementary resources are available on our website.
Looking ahead, I would also like to highlight the upcoming elections for three professional members of our Registration Boards;
- Optical
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
These elections, which will take place online, offer a unique opportunity for professionals to contribute to the governance and decision-making processes that shape their respective professions. Thank you to those who have nominated themselves and I encourage all registrants to get involved by participating in the voting process.
Finally, I want to remind those registered with the Optical and Occupational Therapist Registration Boards about their upcoming Continuing Professional Development (CPD) audits which will be submitted online via our registrant system. As part of our commitment to maintaining high standards of practice, we regularly conduct CPD audits to assess how well professionals are engaging in learning activities that enhance their skills, knowledge, and competence. CPD is not only a requirement under your code of Professional Conduct and Ethics, but it is also crucial for fostering lifelong learning and ensuring that practitioners remain up-to-date in an ever changing healthcare environment. If you are selected for audit, please be assured that the process is designed to be supportive and straightforward. If you need assistance or guidance, we encourage you to review the dedicated resources available on our website, where you will find step-by-step instructions and helpful FAQs
As always, I encourage you to stay engaged with the work we are doing. Should you have any questions or require further information on any of the topics mentioned in our Newsletter, please get in touch.
