Colin Reid

Colin is a social worker by professional background with a Masters degree in Social Work from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) in 1987.  He obtained a certificate in Social Welfare Law from QUB in 1991 and holds the Social Work Practice Teacher’s qualification.  He has a career in social work in both the statutory and voluntary sector and worked as a Policy and Public Affairs Manager in NSPCC/Childline for 20 years. He spent a year on part time secondment to the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister at the NI Executive in 2010.   

Colin is currently Head of Safeguarding Services at the Education Authority in Northern Ireland with functional responsibility for safeguarding, Education Welfare and Intercultural issues. Colin has an interest in regulation and previously held public appointments as a Non-Executive of Director of the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority, was  a member of the NI Food Advisory Committee of the Food Standards Agency  and serves as a member of the  NI Social Care Council’s professional regulatory committee.  He was a former Deputy Chair and Chair of BASW NI the professional body for social work in the UK.
