Dr Patrick McGarty is Senior Lecturer at the School of Health and Social Science at Munster Technological University. In his career to date, Dr McGarty has led the design, development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate social care and social work programmes at Technological University Dublin, Athlone Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Sligo and Munster Technological University. He has also served as Chair and member of programme advisory boards, quality assurance forums, and external examiner across the Irish higher education sector.
Dr McGarty has lectured extensively in social care and social work. A public policy specialist, he has published and presented at national and international conferences on a broad range of social care and public policy themes. Dr McGarty has served on a wide range of boards in the public, private and voluntary sectors. He served as Chair of the QQI National Standards Committee on Social Care Education, and was a member of QQI/HETAC Panel of Experts and Tusla Third Level Education and Training Advisory Committee.
A recipient of the Social Care Ireland Award for his services to education, Dr McGarty is a founder member and past-President of the Irish Association of Social Care Educators and is presently the organisation’s Vice-President.
