Consultation on Council Draft Framework Pre-Registration Education and Training Requirements

Council Framework Standards and Criteria Stakeholder Consultation

CORU is a multi-profession regulator with responsibility, currently, for regulating 12 health and social care professions. While each profession is distinct and has its own professional identity and practice, there are areas of commonality across them.

With regard to the setting of pre-registration education and training requirements, these areas of commonality are identified and set by the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (which has representation from across all the professions as designated in the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended)) in two Council Framework documents:

Each Registration Board adopts the Council Frameworks and then works to tailor it to reflect and meet the needs of each individual profession.

Council cyclically reviews its Framework documents to make sure they continue to be fit for purpose, relevant and reflect the changing environments of health and social care practice and education. In its Statement of Strategy, 2022-2026, Council committed to:

Strategic Priority 5.2: Review our education standards, codes and guidance to reflect changing contexts of practice, professional practice and emerging evidence and research.

Strategic Priority 5.3: Review our Criteria for Education and Training Programmes and our processes for approval and monitoring education and training programmes for entry to our registers.

Working towards meeting these strategic priorities, Council undertook an extensive review and revision process during 2022 and 2023 and has prepared draft revised Framework Standards of Proficiency and Criteria for Education and Training Programmes for public consultation. You can access the consultation documents in the Related Files section below.
