Psychologists Registration Board Guidance and Support for CPD
The Psychologists Registration Board is progressing towards introducing statutory regulation to the profession of psychology in Ireland. An update on the Board’s work is available to read here. As part of its preparation to open divisions of its register for clinical, counselling and educational psychologists, the Board has published draft guidance and support on continuing professional development (CPD).
CPD is one of the key mechanisms used to foster high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence among CORU registrants. One of the duties of a registration board is to give guidance to its registrants concerning ethical conduct and to give guidance and support to them concerning the practice of the designated profession and continuing professional development.
Therefore the Psychologists Registration Board has published two documents for public consultation:
The guidance document outlines the responsibility of psychologists registered with the Registration Board to engage in CPD as will be required by the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics. The support document provides advice to registrants on how to demonstrate that they have a system in place to engage in CPD to ensure that their knowledge, skills and performance are of a high quality, up to date and relevant to their practice.
