Rena Catherine Elliott
Rena has been practicing as a community Optometrist and manager of an independent practice in Athlone for over 30 years. During this time, she has had the pleasure of tutoring final year Optometry students and international students doing their period of adaptation. Therefore she is very aware of the challenges facing candidates during the CORU registration process and will strive to make this a more streamlined process.
As a current council member of the Association of Optometrists she helps address the challenges she sees on an everyday basis in practice.
Rena is a strong advocate of primary care optometry services being developed and implemented by local optometrists. This includes emergency care, for example red eye assessments and foreign body removal. Of course, remuneration must be in line with international levels. Continuous professional development is also key here. This benefits both optometrists and the general public.
From a professional perspective Rena has wide experience with all age groups in the community, with special interest in myopia management and dyslexia assessments. She is very aware of the business side of optometry and will strive to ensure that there are no extra financial burdens placed on optometric practices.
Personally, Rena is a mother of 4 adult children and have the time to give this role the commitment it deserves.
