Róisín O'Hanlon

I qualified as a physiotherapist from Trinity College, Dublin in 1989 after which I worked in abroad for four years. On returning to Ireland, I worked in a variety of public acute and community areas, and in private practice, before starting work in Portiuncula Hospital in 1996. I now manage a team that provides physiotherapy to a wide range of clinical areas in a Model 3 hospital.

I have an MA in Healthcare Management from the IPA, and was called to the Bar in 2022. I was involved in the ISCP at branch, employment and national level, including having served as Vice President.

I have been a member and Chair of the Physiotherapists Registration Board since 2022. During this time I was delighted to have been Chair through a period of huge change in the recognition and registration process, making registration as a Physiotherapist a smoother process for those who meet the required standard. One of the most significant developments was the introduction of the division of the register for Physiotherapists Referral for Radiological Diagnostic Procedures, requiring me to assist in the process from inception to sign off of the By Laws allowing the opening of the division of the Register. Future challenges will be the European Common Training Framework and the possible extension of Frequently Seen Qualifications category to other jurisdictions that align with CORU’s Standards of Proficiency
