About the Podiatrists Registration Board
The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, confirmed on 16 October 2018 the establishment of and appointment of members to the Podiatrists Registration Board, under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (amended), to regulate the profession of Podiatrists.
In 2022, the Department of Health informed the Board that ‘Chiropodists’ would become a protected title.
The register opened on 31 March 2021, and the titles of podiatrist and chiropodist became officially protected on 31 March 2023.
The Podiatrists Registration Board at CORU has statutory responsibility for:
- Establishing and maintaining a Register of members of the profession
- Assessing, approving and monitoring training courses for the health and social care professions under the Act
- Establishing the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and standards of performance to which podiatrists and chiropodists must adhere.
The Podiatrists Registration Board is the designated Competent Authority and is responsible for recognition of qualifications gained outside the State
