Compensation Measures
What are Compensation Measures?
If your qualification does not align to the Standards of Proficiency for your profession you will be required to complete a Compensation Measure, which may be a Period of Adaptation (POA) or an Aptitude Test.
What is a Period of Adaptation? (POA)
- A period of supervised practice in Ireland under responsibility of a fully qualified and registered member of the profession (may be accompanied by academic modules)
- A period of adaptation addresses only the substantial differences identified in a professional qualification meeting the standards as set out by the relevant Board
- Maximum duration of 3 years and must take place in Ireland
- A formal POA proposal must be submitted to the Board for approval by the Board prior to the commencement of a POA
- Subject to reporting/assessment
- One repeat allowed
What is an Aptitude Test?
- A test limited to assessment of the professional knowledge of the applicant / professional rules applicable to the profession in Ireland
- An aptitude test assesses only substantial differences identified in a professional qualification meeting the standards as set out by the relevant Board
- This takes place in Host State
- It must be offered within six months
- One repeat allowed
- Incurs a fee of €500
