What are Compensation Measures?
“‘substantially different matters’ means matters in respect of which knowledge, skills and competences acquired are essential for pursuing the profession and with regard to which the training received by the migrant shows significant differences in terms of content from the training required by the host Member State.”
Adaptation Period or Aptitude Test (Proportionality)
What is a Period of Adaptation? (POA)
- A period of supervised practice in Ireland under responsibility of a fully qualified and registered member of the profession (may be accompanied by academic modules)
- A period of adaptation addresses only the substantial differences identified in a professional qualification meeting the standards of proficiency and practice placement criteria
- Maximum duration of 3 years and must take place in Ireland
- A formal POA proposal must be submitted to the Board for approval by the Board prior to the commencement of a POA
- Subject to reporting/assessment
- One repeat allowed
What is an Aptitude Test?
- A test limited to assessment of the professional knowledge of the applicant / professional rules applicable to the profession in Ireland
- An aptitude test assesses only substantial differences identified in a professional qualification meeting the standards of proficiency and practice placement criteria, knowledge of which is essential to pursue the profession
- This takes place in Host State
- It must be offered within six months
- One repeat allowed
- Incurs a fee of €500
